Objectives
The objective of the
census is to count the number of population and households and
collect information on demographic and socioeconomic characteristics
of population as well as housing chracteristics.
Coverage
Population
included in the census coverage are:
- All Thai nationals
residing in the country as of the census date, April 1,
2000.
- Persons having
their usual residence in Thailand, but as of the census
date, are away temporarily at field exercises, at sea
or temporarily abroad
- Government officials,
both civilian and military including Thai diplomatic personnel,
and their families stationed abroad.
- Civilian nationals
of foreign nations having their usual residence in Thailand
of those who had resided in Thailand for at least three
months as of the census date (before January 1, 2000).
- The housing census
includes all private households
Methodology & Data Capture
Methodology
The sample census enumeration
technique will be adopted. In Bangkok and municipal and non-municipal
areas, all persons and households will be listed and simultaneously
enumerated with the short form questionnaire except for the
sample households (20%) which will be enumerated with the long
form questionnaire.
Data Capture
It is the first time
that an Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) will be introduced
for data capture of the population and housing census.
